Pokhara University : A Short Overview

Introduction:

Pokhara University was established in 1997 under Pokhara University Act, 1997 in the lake city of Pokhara. Kaski. Right Honorable Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is Chancellor, and Honorable Minister for Education is the Pro-Chancellor of the University. Vice Chancellor is appointed by Right Honorable Chancellor and he is the principal executive office of the University. He is assisted by Registrar in financial management and general administration. Pokhara University, non-profit autonomous institution, is partially financed by the Government of Nepal and partially by the revenue raised from the students and affiliated colleges.

Objectives:

• To produce skilled and qualitative human resource in areas in the areas of science, technology, management, law, humanities, education and other professional areas for national development.
• To encourage  private sector participation in the development of higher education.
• To create  healthy, respectful and result oriented disciplined academic environment by improving quality in education.
• To promote the quality and standard of higher education through the healthy competition in higher education.
• To contribute to the community development by operating extension programs. 

Vision and Mission:

The Vision of the Pokhara Universty is to be a leader in the promotion of education and health tourism through quality higher education, health and community service in the South Asian Region. The mission of Pokhara University is to develop a centre of Excellence for Heigher Education by excelling in teaching, learning and research activities; contributing to the national development process by producing job market oriented, responsible, productive, service oriented and committed human resources and link the Univeraity system with the community services.

Faculties and Academic Programs:

Pokhara University has three faculties- Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and is establishing the Faculty of Health Science in near future. The University has offered Bachelor and Master Programs in various in various subjects in its 4 constituent schools and 49 affiliated colleges. “हिमालयन कच्चा औषधिः अवसर र चुनौतिहरू” नामक विषयमा एक दिने विचार गोष्ठी आयोजना

पोखरा विश्वविद्यालयको विज्ञान तथा प्रविधि सङ्काय, स्वास्थ्य विज्ञान विभागको आयोजनामा विश्वविद्यालयको प्राज्ञिक भवन कम्प्लेक्समा “हिमालयन कच्चा औषधिः अवसर र चुनौतिहरू” नामक विषयमा एक दिने विचार गोष्ठी आयोजना भयो । “अमन्त्रमक्षरं नास्ति नास्ति मूलमनौषध्म् । अयोग्यः पुरूषः नास्ति योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभः” को मूल मन्त्रबाट आरम्भ भएको उक्त विचार गोष्ठीलाई गमलामा निमको विरुवा रोपेर कार्यक्रमका प्रमुख अतिथि एवम् पोखरा विश्वविद्यालयका उपकुलपति प्रा. खगेन्द्रप्रसाद भट्टराईले उद्घाटन गर्नुभएको थियो । उक्त गोष्ठीलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै उपकुलपति भट्टराईले हाम्रो मुलुक सानो भएतापनि अत्यन्तै विविधता भएको भएको उल्लेख गर्दै देशको विभिन्न ठाउँमा पाइने विविध खाले औषधिजन्य जडिबुटिहरूको पहिचान, संरक्षण र त्यसको उचित प्रयोग गरेर मानव जीवनको स्वास्थ्यलाई बचाउन सकिने उल्लेख गर्नुभयो ।

पोवि सभाबाट ५५ करोडको बजेट पारित

पोखरा विश्वविद्यालय सभाको १४ औं बैठक २०७० भदौ २८ गते शुक्रबारका दिन विश्वविद्यालयका कुलपति एवम् मन्त्रिपरिषद्का सम्माननीय अध्यक्ष खिलराज रेग्मीको अध्यक्षतामा राष्टिय योजना आयोग (हर्क गुरुङ् सभाकक्ष), सिंहदरबार काठमाडौंमा सम्पन्न भएको छ । उक्त बैठकले विश्वविद्यालयको आ.व. २०७०/७१ को वार्षिक कार्यक्रम र कुल ५५ करोड १० लाख ७४ हजारको बजेट पारित गरेको छ ।

पारित बजेटमध्ये पूँजीगततर्फ २४ करोड ४१ लाख ५४ हजार तथा साधारणतर्फ २० करोड ६९ लाख २० हजार रहेको छ ।

पोवि सभाको १४ औं बैठकले पोखरा विश्वविद्यालय शिक्षक कर्मचारीसम्बन्धी नियमावली २०५५, क्याम्पस (महाविद्यालय)÷शिक्षण संस्थाको सम्बन्धनसम्बन्धी नियमावली २०५६ र पोवि छात्रवृत्तिसम्बन्धी नियमावली २०६५ मा केही संशोधन र परिमार्जन गरेको छ । त्यसैगरी केही तहको एमफिल र पिएचडीको उपाधि निर्धारण र स्थापनाका साथै विश्वविद्यालयको रणनीतिक योजना तथा दोस्रो पञ्चवर्षीय कार्ययोजनालाई पनि परिमार्जन सहित पारित गरेको छ ।
